Who: Members of Congress and their staff What: First-Ever USO Female Care Package Stuffing Demonstration When: Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Where: Rayburn Foyer - First Floor Rayburn House Office Building Why: To support our troops and recognize women in the military Dear Colleague: As founding co-chairs of the USO Congressional Caucus, we write to invite you to participate in a special USO Care Package stuffing demonstration recognizing women in the military on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Rayburn Foyer. Operation USO Care Package was initiated by the USO in 2001 to provide our troops deployed overseas with needed items such as shaving kits, wet wipes, playing cards, sun screen, and calling cards so they can stay in touch with the loved ones they left behind. Since the program’s inception, the USO has distributed more than 1.8 million care packages to our troops, and Operation USO Care Package is the only program of its kind endorsed by both the Department of Defense and the White House. In recent years there have been increased requests to tailor special packages for deployed female service members. This is one of many efforts to support our brave women in uniform. On Wednesday, November 18th we hope that you and your staff will join us in the Rayburn Foyer to assemble 2000 care packages for our brave female troops from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. These packages will be distributed to female service members deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you are interested in attending, or have any questions, please contact Julie Merberg in Congressman Reyes’ office at 202-225-4831. We hope to see you there! Sincerely, Silvestre Reyes
